Nothings says date night quite like the theatre, and with many great options in the City of London, there’s sure to be something for you. Take your special someone to either the Palace Theatre or the Grand Theatre and make it a full evening with dinner at one of London’s many dining establishments. Here are a few shows happening right here in London over the month of February, and into March.
Thursday, February 14 – Sunday, February 24
With various showings over two weeks, you’re sure to find time to see London’s premiere of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Almost everyone knows the classic tale by Victor Hugo of the grotesque hunchback living in the cathedral of Notre Dame, whatever version it may be. Disney made it famous with their adaptation of it, but this stage version promises to be far more true and thrilling a tale than most. Based on the novel and with songs from the Disney animated feature, The Hunchback of Notre Dame showcases the film’s Academy Award-nominated score, as well as new songs by Menken and Schwartz. The characters we all know: the beautiful gypsy Esmeralda, Quasimodo the deformed Bell Ringer with a heart of gold, the handsome Captain Phoebus, Frollo, and the evil cardinal… all are brought to life in this magical production. Due to sensitive content this production is recommended as an ages 10+ event. Tickets are available on the Place Theatre website for $30.00. Visit the Palace theatre at 710 Dundas St. London, ON or call 519-432-1029 for more information.
Tuesday, February 19 to Saturday, March 9
Back at the Grand Theatre after 2 years is the hit production Vigilante, based on the true story of the Donnellys. The shocking massacre of Johannah Donnelly and her dangerously devoted sons in nearby Lucan in 1880 – can still freeze the blood. With a pulsing rock musical score, the Donnellys come back to life to haunt us once more. Edmonton’s Catalyst Theatre returns with its powerhouse cast, led by the towering performance of Jan Alexandra Smith, in this tale of brutal revenge and frontier justice. Tickets are available online at the Grand Theatre website, and prices range from $30.00 – $86.00 per person. You can also visit the Grand Theatre at 471 Richmond St, London, ON or call 519-672-8800 for more information.
