Motivation is a dynamic process, it is perfectly normal for us to experience fluctuations, but it is always good to reflect on how things are going and see if you can find fresh ways to maintain your motivation. Some days you can feel like you’re super on it, and like anything is possible, other days it feels like walking through molasses. Finding ways to stay motivated can be a challenge, but there are a few things we can try to spark fresh motivation if we ever feel like we’ve hit a wall.
Reflect and Adjust
Think back to the last two months and reflect on things you felt worked well and things you feel you could have done better at. Anything that worked well, stay on top of, and anything that you feel could be changed or improved on, try to incorporate fresh ideas in your plan for the weeks or month ahead. By training your brain to anticipate new ways of living every now and then, it will encourage a more motivated approach.
Set Clear Goals
If there is anything you feel you have been putting off, or if you have discovered new things you want to explore this year, define specific, achievable goals for this month that can get you started down those paths. Break them down into smaller, manageable tasks to make them more achievable, and build towards them gradually over time.
Create a Schedule
Having a consistent routine can help you stay organized and ensure that you allocate time for your priorities. Structure it around your work, but make sure to allow time for things that will bring balance to your schedule such as hobbies or even rest days.
Celebrate Progress
Keeping a positive mindset and acknowledging your achievements to this point, no matter how small, really helps the psyche. This positive reinforcement can boost your motivation and helps you to focus on the positive aspects of your goals and challenges rather than dwelling on potential obstacles.
Visualize Success
Visualization can help reinforce your commitment and keep you motivated. Doing this in tandem with having a structured routine can make your goals seem more realistic and attainable. Motivation will come from trusting your routine and knowing that ticking off each box is bringing you closer to achieving your goals!
Breaks and Rest
As important as it is to stay on top of things and keep moving forward, it is equally important to know when to stop and let things cool down for a bit. Burnout can decrease motivation, so it's crucial to balance work and relaxation. Too much of anything isn’t good, so find the right balance for you between your priorities and rest.
There is no pressure to this process, the most important thing is to find what works best for you. It is easy to find motivation at the start of the year as we feel as though everything resets and we can just start fresh. But as the months go by, that drive and passion can start to slow down and wilt, which is why it is important for us to stay on top of things and try to find new ways to keep things fresh and exciting. Reflect, analyze, build a structure, and embrace your motivation this month!
