Winter can beat us down sometimes. The days are short, the temperatures can wreak havoc with our bodies. You may not even feel like going outside if you can help it. All in all, it’s no wonder some of us get a little blue this time of year. But there are some easy things we can do that can help lift us up, even just a little.
Get some sunlight
- Even if you don’t choose to step out that door, sitting by the window (maybe wrapped in a warm blanket and sipping tea) during the hours we do get sun will do wonders for your mood. Keeping blinds and shades open when you can during the day will go a long way to lifting that blue mood.
Exercise
- The more snow that falls, the easier it gets to put off going for that walk outside you may have gotten used to in summer. But don’t let that stop you! Do some yoga, try some jumping jacks, heck, you could dance around the kitchen! Getting moving is one of the best things you can do to brighten up you winter.
Help Others
- Finally, doing something for others is a great way to forget about how much you may hate the cold and snow! Maybe your neighbour needs help hanging a picture. Or perhaps the community centre down the road has an opportunity to make use of your skills. Whatever it is, helping others can certainly help break the blues.
