As our days get shorter and nights longer, apples ripen to harvest. These fruits are tastier when you’ve picked them yourself, so we’ve made a list of the best orchards near London, Ontario.
Don’t let the name fool you - this family farm outside of London sells more than just berries! Chard, beets, kale, and more are also grown here. The family also works with other London farmers to provide fresh fruits and vegetables in their market. Most impressively, they have fields for U-Pick apples, strawberries, pumpkins, and squash!
Apple Land sold its first harvest off a picnic table in 1986. Since then, they’ve grown into a full-blown farm, bakery, and store. This location would be
great for a family with young kids as on top of fresh apple picking; they offer train tours, farm animals, a corn maze, playground equipment,
and
a singing chicken puppet show.
Although a bit of a road trip, Twin Pine Orchards and Cider House is worth it. It’s located outside of Thedford, between the shore of Lake Burwell and a limestone ridge - which is a more complicated way of saying the soil is rich with nutrients and minerals. Although there are fewer attractions for children, they offer walking trails and tastings of their award-winning ciders and wines.
The last full weekend of September is their Apple Fest - a massive kick-off for their PYO - Apple season with pumpkin and gourd displays, wagon tours, and free samples and recipes using their drinks and produce.
Similar to Twin Pine, Great Lakes Farms is a bit further out of the city but boasts 155 gorgeous acres, including a historic apple barn - giving it a natural rustic charm. After a wagon-ride and trip through the corn maze, grab a wagon and pick your bushel of apples. Then, you can cozy up in their rustic cafe with ice cream or a warm drink!
