Whether with friends or watching horror movies on your own, a festive cocktail is a great way to exhibit creativity and enjoy the holidays a little bit more. Here are 4 Halloween-themed cocktails that are easy to make and delicious to sip while tasting candy corn.
Serves 8 – 30 Minutes
With a deep red colour and a cinnamon kick, these sparkling-wine drinks are perfect for Halloween and the rest of the autumn season. You will need the following:
· 4 hibiscus tea bags
· 1 cinnamon stick
· 1 cup pomegranate juice
· 1 cup spiced rum
· ½ cup of fresh orange juice, preferably blood orange
· 1 bottle of prosecco or other chilled, sparkling wine
· Pomegranate seeds, slices, and orange slices for garnish
First, steep the tea bags and cinnamon stick in 1 boiling water for about 5 minutes. Then, strain and let cool to room temperature. Second, combine the tea with pomegranate, rum, orange, and prosecco, stir, and serve.
You can add pomegranate seeds, slices, or orange slices on top as a garnish if you wish. You can also swap the bottle of prosecco with sparkling water and the rum with spiced cane spirit, like the one Lyre's makes, for a non-alcoholic version.
Serves 1 – 5 Minutes
This drink features one step and only 4-ingredients, making it one of our favourites. You’ll need the following:
· 1/3 cup apple cider
· 1/3 cup cranberry juice
· 2 oz. fireball
· 1 oz. grenadine
· Optional: ¼ tsp edible glitter
Once you've measured all your ingredients, combine them in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake away. You can use a regular blender if you don't have a cocktail shaker.
The edible glitter adds a fun twist to an otherwise regular drink, but only use the recommended ¼ teaspoon. Edible glitter uses trace amounts of titanium dioxide which can become dangerous in large quantities.
For a non-acholic version, use a non-acholic cinnamon whiskey in place of the fireball.
Serves 55 – 3 Hours
Although this one is the most time-consuming recipe on our list, it’s still easy to make and excellent for those hosting a get together. The ingredients are:
· 5 cups of boiling water
· 1 package of strawberry Jell-O
· 1 package of orange Jell-O
· 1 package of lime Jell-O
· 1 package of berry Jell-O
· 1 package of lemon Jell-O
· 5 cups vodka, divided
· Sour Patch kids
· Whipped topping
First, place two identical Sour Patch kids of every colour in each shot glass. Then, mix the strawberry Jell-O package with 1 cup of boiling water and once dissolved, whisk in 1 cup of vodka. Pour the mixture into the shot glasses with red sour patch kids and repeat this for each Jell-O packet. You'll then have to refrigerate the shooters for at least 2 hours.
Before serving, top the drinks with whipped cream and an additional Sour Patch kid. You can also add colour sprinkles for an extra touch. For a non-alcoholic version, you can use a 0% alcohol vodka, but some people have also used apple cider vinegar, white grape juice, or lime juice in a pinch.
Serves 1 – 5 Minutes
The ingredients in this drink create a bright blue and purple effect, making it look impressive, but it’s incredibly easy to make. You will need the following:
· Ice
· 1 oz. Empress 1908 Gin
· 2 oz. Sparkling lemonade
· 2 oz. Blue Curacao
· 1 rosemary sprig
After filling your glass with ice, add the gin and top with sparkling lemonade. Next, carefully pour Curacao into the glass and watch as it settles to the bottom. You can add a rosemary sprig as an optional garnish.
The signature colours of the Empress gin and Curacao make this drink hard to substitute. Although any gin and orange-flavoured liqueur will work, the mystifying colour is what makes this drink perfect for the Halloween season.
